English to teens

HOW TO GET TEENS ATTENTION AND KEEP IT WHILE TEACHING ENGLISH?

In my opinion, teaching to teens is so challenging! Teen classes are fun and full of laughter. They typically start with small talk. It doesn’t take long for them to start making jokes. But sometimes teen classes are bored, it's because nowadays every teen students need more than teacher who stands out all day long in front of class. So, what should teacher do, to get teens attention and keep it?

First, teacher should create good lesson plan, and put one of their favorite games in their first meeting. it works and your students will enjoy.

Second, find some interested things to share. Use a favorite movie or TV show to work on listening or speaking skills. Make teens interest your inspiration for lesson activities.

Third, they know the rules, but now let them "em,, break,, em".
Probably, as teachers, we try to speak very clearly and pronounce every syllable perfectly so our students can understand. But, It makes most of students afraid in speaking English. In this case, we talk about grammatical rules. One of the most hard things about learning English is learning grammar. Does everyone you know speak perfect English with grammatically correct all the time? Probably not. For example, we can find from music. Music is full of “incorrect” grammatical usage. So, be honest with your teenage students, tell them not everyone is going to speak clearly or correctly. Let them to try and try.

Yes! Teaching English to teenagers has its own unique challenges, but I think if we become the teacher that all the teenagers want to have class with, we’ll have a competitive advantage. :D
